AFTER THE FIRE, 2021

When Dedo built the house on Poničanova, all of the houses in Martin were identical and built of brick and concrete.

Architects in 1970s Czechoslovakia were not taught to think differently and create thoughtfully.

He used the materials available to him in a way nobody else even considered.

It was a wooden structure, his thoughts marking every angle,

with carpet on the walls and furniture intricately designed for every space.

A masterpiece of adaptability.

After the fire, only the first few levels of brick remained. The wood disintegrated at an unstoppable rate.

Its uniqueness is what made it burn.
