A small visitor learning to churn butter with my great-grandmother.
After WWII the German speaking population was expelled from the northern part of Czechoslovakia. Their homes and farms were offered for free to anyone who would take them. Some were ransacked by people looking for a quick gain, but others moved in excited to maintain the properties.
My great grandparents moved into a house in Bobrovnik in 1945.
Soon after many of the farms were nationalized.
My great-grandmother was a true homemaker.
She took care of the cows and chickens and pigs
She harvested potatoes, picked fruit from their orchard and baked daily.
As the house had extra bedrooms, they had visitors in the summertime.
Families would come and stay, like a bed and breakfast,
and observe their caring lifestyle.
