VÁCLAVÁK 1989, 2021

On the 17th of November 1989, there was a demonstration in Prague that was violently suppressed by the police.

As the news got out students across the country were motivated to come together and speak out.

Students in Banská Bystrica began to gather, my parents among them.

That night they marched to the other college, on the other side of town to meet in dorm rooms with other students.

Being watched, monitored and followed they went on, knowing the importance of what they were doing.

My dad was a leader, inspiring discussion and writing statements.

There was no news coverage of what was happening, so they decided to go to Prague in order to connect with other students.
